Its that Time of Year Again!
We know the routine… we get the children back to school, and before you know it, it is time to shop for Halloween candy! What a set up! Next, Thanksgiving, Christmas and low and behold, we are back to the same old drone of weight gain and belly bulge. It happen’s every year, like an endless cycle.
What went wrong? Perhaps we need to think ahead this year. That is why I am going to give you this little informational pep talk, so that you can enter holiday season with a bit more ammunition to set yourself up to win rather than dig yourself into a deeper groove than you got into last year.
First of all, you need to understand that getting yourself to do the right thing mid way, after the candy has been bought is super challenging. After all, you know you should not eat it, but if doing what you know you should or should not do was easy, we would all do the right things all along. The reality is that once that candy goes into the body and feeds the yeasty microorganisms in the body, it is that much more difficult. The microorganisms called “Candida Albicans” are fungi that live on the sugar that you eat; in fact, they have quite a hay day. They reproduce and breed millions and billions more little yeasty babies – all who want and need sugar. What is worse, not only do they make demands for more sugar, they leave their waste in YOUR body – in a gaseous form. Yes, that is what causes the bloating. Just like beer does in middle aged men, and parasites do in meat eaters. Now, have you ever successfully given a crying baby a celery stick to calm him down? Exactly. Now imagine billions of yeast babies crying for sugar. No amount of celery sticks will calm them. They need sugar. Then dear one, you have just lost the battle. Your intellect has been overcome by your bodies voracious need for sugar, carbs, or the vise of your choice.
Now, letʼs rewind. What if Halloween treats became penʼs pencils, erasers, comic books, apples, pears or maybe Halloween night becomes a family night at the beach for a picnic, an early movie or just an evening walk at the park? Why do we need to buy into the commercialization of a holiday that just leads to sickness and inevitable dis-ease?
OK, so you donʼt want to be the talk of the town that gives out bum treats or turns off your lights as if to alert trick or treaters not to knock. What then?
Letʼs take care of YOUR body to get it ready to prevent the nasty sugar blues. The key is in the understanding that to truly beat the belly blues, blahs, and blechs, one must have a deep long term commitment to true ever-lasting health. To think in terms of a diet, a short term pill, powder or procedure that will eventually lead you right back to where you started and may even have ugly side effects with it. We have all heard the commercials where the side effects are more ghastly than the originally problem – that is not the result we want.
So as the holidays approach remind yourself that the first mistake we make every year is simply overeating. The second is overeating sugar. So start off by eating smaller portions of everything. Don’t go back for seconds! Second, limit the sugar in these portions. If you must have a piece of pie, have only 1 piece! But keep in mind, once you eat that piece of pie, the bad bacteria in your body will crave more sugar! Setting you up for another season of digestive dis-ease! We have to be extra conscious of our food choices over the holidays if we want to survive the holiday season. Now is the time to make the resolution for health in 2018!
