Heal Your Pain by Breathing and Stretching
“I am so happy that I went to yoga today. I had a bit of a strain in my back and I was not sure if it was wise to push it. However, my psyche was struggling with two days of inactivity and I noticed that my energy wasn’t very joyful as a result. What I learned while in class, was that there was one muscle in spasm and that had nothing to do with the rest of my body. So I did my own personal stretch, with extreme focus and deliberation to not exacerbate the strain. I did what stretching I could do and I feel so much better. I am grateful to have cultivated the body awareness over the last 40 years as a dancer and yogini, which assists me in healing overworked, strained or sore muscles. I think what is most crucial is releasing and relaxing all the muscles around the injured area, with the breath and opening up and allowing the Golgi tendon organs to release tension while surrendering into the elongation of the strained muscles. I think that if we learn to use our bodies comprehensively, not neglecting any one part and attending towards our needs in a detailed fashion, purposefully, with breath we can heal all of our physical pain, which may or may not have originated from emotional pain, but is most definitely affecting our emotional well-being. It all comes down to breathing, relaxing and listening within. Tootaloo! “
