How to Treat Heartburn Naturally

Jan 12, 2021

Common Causes of Heartburn

Heartburn is burning pain or discomfort in the upper chest, mid-chest and sometimes the neck and throat that may get worse when lying down. Some of the things that exacerbate this sensation for sensitive individuals are spicy foods, alcohol, overeating or tight clothing. However there are generally underlying conditions that cause the heartburn. Some of those conditions include imbalances in the gut micro biome or natural flora that exists throughout the alimentary canal. A lack of digestive enzymes is a common culprit, especially for patients with Type A blood.
Pathogenic bacteria like candida, parasites and H.Pylori can irritate a sensitive digestive system in many patients. Poor food choices and combinations can worsen symptoms and create lower abdominal gas and bloating as well. Dehydration can also cause heartburn by preventing the stomach lining from generating an alkaline coat to protect its delicate mucus membrane lining.

Modern Medicine’s Treatment of Heartburn

Modern medicine prescribed by an MD will usually include PPI’s which over the long haul can have potentially serious side effects including fractures, pneumonia, Clostridium difficile diarrhea, hypomagnesemia, Vitamin B12 deficiency, chronic kidney disease, and dementia. Long-term use of Tums, and other over-the-counter medicines can include diarrhea, metabolic changes and ultimately kidney disease.

Common Natural Remedies

Common home remedies include ginger tea, postural correction, apple cider vinegar, licorice,  proper hydration, the appropriate digestive enzymes and probiotics. The problem is that sometimes these options don’t correct the problem completely. Each day a patient suffers with heartburn, acid indigestion or another gastrointestinal malaise, they are also compromising their energy, their other organs, and their ability to live life to the fullest.

Moving Forward

Though it sounds daunting and may last in patients for decades, even when treated with Tums or PPI’s, a qualified naturopathic doctor can identify the causal factors and restore healthy gut flora, digestive function and enzymatic activity; create a sumptuous, healing meal plans and determine which bacterium are out of balance, correcting the condition in a few short weeks, if not sooner.
I personally have treated hundreds of patients who had acid reflux, heartburn and gastric incompetence for decades and assisted them in complete resolution within a two week period. Please let me know if I may assist you.
