Losing Weight by means of Health, Nutrition & Detoxification

Dr. Diana Joy Ostroff from Honolulu, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu, specializes in treatment of the factors that can inhibit weight loss, including specific dietary counseling, promoting proper digestion, restoring compromised liver function, promoting proper thyroid metabolism, identifying nutrient deficiencies, treating food allergies, treating insulin resistance, detoxification of heavy metals and treatment of intestinal imbalances…just to name a few. Many people believe that weight loss pills are not good, but struggle to find other weight loss programs or ways to lose weight fast. As your personal health coach, Dr. Ostroff empowers you to change your lifestyle for the better, while assisting you with the appropriate detoxification, supplementation and physical modalities to enhance your progress when it comes to medical weight loss.

The Center for Natural Healing is not a weight loss clinic, per se, but as part of a holistic approach to health it offers the top of the line in non-invasive cold laser body sculpting and red-light therapies to help reduce stubborn fat and cellulite. Weight loss diets are also suggested and structured at the center. Both men and women actively participate in Dr. Joy’s individualized weight loss programs, creating healthy, positive lifestyle habits while maintaining balance and overall well-being. See our YouTube channel for personal testimonies from happy patients.

A healthy body relies on healthy food, eaten in the proper proportions and combined properly. Just as no two individuals are the same, there is no one weight loss diet that will suit each person’s individual needs.

Unlike medical doctors who receive between one and three hours of clinical nutrition in medical schools like Harvard and Stanford, naturopathic physicians receive 220 hours of clinical nutrition in the classroom during their four years in their accredited medical school. That is why, when you visit Dr. Ostroff at the Center for Natural Healing, she will guide you in selecting the most advantageous foods for you to build healthy blood, cleanse your body and regain maximal efficiency in your body’s organs. This translates into more utilizable energy for you to do what you love to do, and also helps you to lose weight fast, but in a healthy manner.

Your complete diet will be evaluated, and Dr. Ostroff will slowly insert recommendations on how you can make easy and delicious changes that will ensure greater results with your overall health program, getting you closer to your ideal weight, and a beautiful and healthy body. (Yes, more beautiful than it is now!)

How might your WEIGHT GAIN be related to your HORMONES?

You exercise, you diet, you visit your doctor—yet your weight loss program doesn’t seem to be helping. What is happening? Weight loss programs may invoke images of salads, hours in the gym, deprivation of all of your favorite foods—and even doing all of that doesn’t seem to be working well. It may be worthwhile to consider hormone testing. As we age, estrogen and progesterone levels decline in women, while androgen levels (testosterone and DHEA) may increase. For men, it may be the opposite. These changes not only increase the risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease, but also shift how and where fat is stored in our bodies. Attempting to lose weight fast without addressing the hormonal component is like going to the gym and then eating a big piece of cheesecake or chocolate mousse. Eating whole foods, reducing refined carbohydrates and exercising, combined with treating all hormonal imbalances, will help you to be successful in your attempt to lose weight and keep it off. Common weight-related hormone symptoms include * Increased waist size * Bloating * Decline in stamina * Difficulty maintaining weight loss.

Effects on Your Body

As we age, our basal metabolic rate (BMR) slows down, increasing the number of calories that are converted to fat. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, and as its natural production declines, your body compensates by storing fat. The accumulation most commonly occurs around the abdomen. The thyroid gland has a huge impact on our metabolism, energy and how we feel—whether we feel joyful or depressed is often affected by our thyroid gland function. It is not enough to test TSH or T4, as these are only components of a more comprehensive thyroid test. Vitamin D levels and iodine must be assessed as well. Iodine is a micronutrient that feeds the thyroid. When insufficient iodine exists chronically, the thyroid is starved for nutrition, and thus its ability to produced adequate hormone is compromised. Concurrently, when our thyroid receptors or thyroglobulins are not adequately coated with nutritive iodine, they become receptive to radioactive iodine, which can predispose the body to cancer or other compromised states of poor health, weight gain being only a microcosm. Hormone changes redirect the body to store fat in an attempt to conserve hormone and energy stores. However, these stores are often counter-productive to health and well-being. Balancing your hormones can and will help facilitate lasting weight loss, when guided by a qualified naturopathic physician specializing in ideal weightloss.
