Dr. Diana Joy Ostroff is an experienced Oahu, Hawaii, menopause physician. Menopause refers to the physical condition that naturally occurs in aging women. Soon before menopause, a woman’s menstrual cycle usually becomes irregular, and periods can last longer or shorter, and involve a heavier or lighter flow. At this time, women usually go through hot flashes that can last from 30 seconds to many minutes, and may include shivering, excessive sweating and flushing or reddening of the skin. These symptoms usually stop occurring after a couple of years. Other symptoms can include sleeplessness, vaginal dryness, frequent mood changes and many others. These symptoms will vary between women. In some women, previous menstrual problems like endometriosis and painful periods may improve after menopause.
PMS—Premenstrual Syndrome Relief
Dr. Diana Joy Ostroff is an experienced Oahu, Hawaii, PMS physician working in a well-renowned women’s health center. Premenstrual syndrome or PMS refers to the physical and emotional condition that naturally occurs in the one to two weeks before a woman’s menstruation. Symptoms differ between women, but typically ease off around the start of the period cycle. Symptoms include acne, sore or tender breasts, water or gas bloating, tiredness, irritability and erratic mood or hormonal changes. Often, the PMS cycle will last around six days. A woman’s health symptoms may vary over time. Symptoms shouldn’t occur while pregnant or after menopause.
Diagnosis requires a constant monitoring of the pattern of emotional and physical symptoms after the ovulation cycle and before menstruation. Emotional symptoms shouldn’t occur during the initial menstrual cycle. If they do, seek a specialized PMS women’s health physician. A daily list of symptoms for a few months will help for diagnosis. Other disorders that cause similar symptoms will need to be treated as well in order to heal the root cause of the symptoms.
The root cause of PMS is unknown. Some symptoms can be caused by a high-salt diet, too much alcohol or caffeine. The main cause involves changes in hormone levels. Diet changes including reducing salt and caffeine, along with emotional factors like decreased stress and increased exercise can help relieve most mild symptoms. Calcium and vitamin D supplementation may be used, along with other supplements to restore the body’s natural equilibrium and overall health, which also helps reduce the symptoms related to PMS.
Dr. Diana Joy Ostroff offers naturopathic and holistic programs to restore your core health and get control of and relief from PMS naturally.
